About:

James graduated from the University of Glasgow. He then worked in mixed practice for a short time before joining a specialist equine practice in Yorkshire, where he developed a keen interest in lameness and reproductive medicine.

James grew up with horses and has always sought to make them part of his career. Whilst not at work he spends time with his own horses; breeding, riding and not quite getting round to show jumping again!

Our Services:

  • Equine Dentistry - We are fully equipped for routine dental checks of your horse with manual rasps, dremmels and power floats. We also perform remedial dentistry including: wolf tooth removal, investigation of dental and sinus infections and molar extractions.
  • As qualified veterinary surgeons we can provide sedation, local anaesthesia or pain relief as required.
  • Diagnostic Imaging - Our practice is equipped with portable state-of-the-art digital radiography equipment, capable of producing high output x-rays ideal for imaging spinal and dental problems as well as distal limb investigations. The primary function is to provide a field x-ray facility capable of producing clinic quality images; the images are processed digitally within a few seconds and can be uploaded directly onto a dedicated system at our premises for further in-depth analysis and storage.
  • Internal Medicine - Horses can suffer from a wide range of medical conditions. These include recurrent colic, weight loss, cushings syndrome, laminitis, respiratory disease and liver disease. At Stretton Hills we aim to provide an up to date and comprehensive medical service.
  • PrePurchase Examination - Stretton Hills Veterinary Practice is able to perform pre-purchase examinations on the client’s request to assess the horse’s suitability for the intended purpose. Our team’s expertise in this field has been supported by attending BEVA courses on carrying out either two or five stage vettings.
  • Stud Medicine - Our vets have a specific interest and experience in equine fertility and reproduction. We offer a wide range of services from simple pregnancy scans to fresh, chilled and frozen inseminations. Pre-breeding examinations can be undertaken which usually involve a gynaecological examination (tailored to the history/requirements) collection of CEM samples and possibly EVA, EIA and strangles blood samples.
