About:

Here at Horsley Brook attention to detail is everything. Ed oversees all parts of the horses training from ground work to faster work, to the stalls training. The yard is kept at a manageable size so quality is never compromised.

Private gallops allow all training to be done in a safe and secure environment, which enables the horse to thrive and achieve its full potential. All owners are welcome to come and visit whenever they are available to see their horse in its own home enviroment or working out on the gallops.

Ed has been an assistant to his father (Bryan McMahon) for over 20 years, so has gained a vast amount of experience prior to taking out his licence. In his first four years of training he has amassed over £800,000.00 in prize money with wins in Listed races and group placed horses. Ed was lucky enough to take over some owners from his father, who have now been with the family for many years. These owners have been very loyal and supportive and have been joined by new owners who are enjoying continued success with our family business.

The farm is set in 170 acres of Staffordshire farmland, with the gradient of the land being ideal for training, there is over a mile of straight grass gallops, 8 furlongs of sand gallops and a Martin Collins Eco Track which covers 6 furlongs and was installed in 2006. Considerable time has been taken to build and renovate buildings with the sole purpose of building an environment which is ideal for training racehorses. There are 37 internal boxes based in a large American barn system, with two horse walkers located immediately at the back and then a further 15 boxes which are in the traditional listed brick yard which originally housed cows.

In order to break yearlings we have built an indoor lunge ring which creates a safe and secure environment for the yearlings to begin and continue their education. We have a furlong round all weather trot which is in use daily.

Sand Pens are available to turn out horses, in order to add some variety into their daily routine.
