About:

I operate a fully mobile Equine Sports Massage and Holistic Human Massage Therapy service, serving Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

Massage is one of the oldest and simplest forms of therapy, the history of massage can be traced back through China, Egypt and India but Western massage was first found in Socrates Greece. It was later developed by the Swedish doctor, poet and educator Per Henrik Ling.

Massage hugely benefits the wellbeing of the horse by releasing tension and aiding mental relaxation. The incorporation of passive stretches help to keep or restore joints and muscles to their full working capacity. Massage can be incorporated into any training regime, pre and post competition/race, keeping muscles healthy by maintaining strength and suppleness to minimise stiffness. In the event of an injury, massage is of great benefit as it speeds up the recovery period by preventing atrophy of the muscles during a period of box rest or restricted work.

I have worked with horses all my life. During 2010-2011 I furthered my knowledge in Equine Sport Massage working with National Hunt trainer, Chris Bealby, in Lincolnshire where I treated all his horses on a daily basis. One particular success was Pollen Jock who had struggled to deliver a good run after a fall. Chris assigned Pollen Jock to me to rehabilitate and both were delighted with the result – he won 3 times in a row! In 2012 I graduated from Andrew Glaister “Applied Equine Biomechanics” training course in Spinal Manipulation, which I incorporate into my massage work.

I have considerable experience with all types of horses from all disciplines, from dressage, eventing, national hunt racehorses, point-to-pointers and rehabilitation.
