About:

David Nicholls began training in 1992. After a successful career as a jockey he decided to turn his hand to training, and what a decision this has proved to be. David started training with only 5 horses with the help of his wife, champion lady Jockey Alex Greaves, he now has around 100 under his care.

The Yard: The yard is made up of American style barns. They are very light and have good air circulation as well as being spacious. They are warm in the winter and cool in the summer. All stables have automatic water fillers. We have in total about 105 stables in about 8 different yards. Some of the yards have earth bottomed stables which seem to work wonders on horses with leg troubles. There are also two six horse horse walkers on the premises that are used all year round. These are undercover so the horses can be exercised whatever the weather.

The Gallops: We have a 7f dog leg all weather gallop on the premises. We also have three grass gallops - a 7f round gallop, a 7f dog leg gallop and a 5f straight. We use the gallops depending on the weather and the workload of the horses. We exercise many of the horses in our numerous lunge pits as well to give the horses variation in their work load and type of work. We have recently built an indoor ride which is prooving an invaluable facility for breaking. It also gets used by the older horses when they first come back into work after their winter break and in periods of bad weather.

Paddocks: All of our horses are turned out in the paddocks daily after exercise. They are out for about an hour and also go out in the afternoon throughout the summer. This relieves the boredom of standing in the stables.
