About:

Welcome to Hellwood Racing Stables, the small and friendly yard in the North where all the horses are cared for as individuals.

Richard Whitaker is the trainer, with help from his wife Liz, and sons Simon and Tim. Small doesn't mean unsuccessful though, and it was from here in West Yorkshire that Richard Whitaker trained Captain Rio to Group success. Great pride is taken on turn out too, proof being the stack of Best Turned Out awards regularly won at the races.

Hellwood Farm is only 7 miles from Leeds towards Wetherby, and is central to a host of Yorkshire tracks, with excellent transportation links to the rest of the country. Considering it's proximity to Leeds and the A1, Hellwood is surprisingly quiet, set in 150 acres of rolling countryside as far as the eye can see.

The horses at Hellwood live in large airy boxes around the farm, or in a large well ventilated American style barn. There is an outdoor school, covered horsewalker, dozens of turn out paddocks, and the gallops are a short hack through woodland.

There is a ratio of one lad or lass to three or four horses, so each horse has the best of care and attention.
